10th Dalai Lama : Tsultrim Gyatso : Tshul-khrims-rgya-mtsho (1816-1837)

Son of Lobsang Dakpa and Namgyal Bhuti, Tsultrim Gyatso was born in 1816 in Lithang (Kham region).
He was recognized as the 10th Dalai Lama in 1822 and enthroned in the Potala Palace in the same year, taking then his novice vows of monkhood from the Panchen Lama, Tenpai Nyima - who gave him the name Tsultrim Gyatso.
With the age of 10, in 1826, he entered the Drepung monastery where he studied various Buddhist philosophical texts and mastered both the sutra and tantra.
Hhe reconstructed the Potala Palace in 1831.
At the age of 19 he took the Gelong vows (full monk ordination) from the Panchen Lama.
He died in 1837.
