8th Dalai Lama : Jamphel Gyatso : ’Jam-dpal-rgya-mtsho (1758-1804)

Son of Sonam Dhargye and Phuntsok Wangmo, he was born in 1758 at Thobgyal, Lhari Gang in the Tsang region of southwestern Tibet.
Jamphel Gyatso was enthroned as the 8th Dalai Lama at the Lhasa Palace in 1762, on a ceremony presided by Demo Tulku Jamphel Yeshi, the first Regent to represent the Dalai Lamas when they were minors.
He took his novice vows of monkhood from the Panchen Lama at the age of 7. Later, in 1777, he was fully ordinated and reigned until he died at the age of 47 in 1804.
